Don’t read this if you’re happy keeping stacks of printed email resumes, entering names, phone numbers, and email addresses into a spreadsheet, and writing interview appointments into your day planner.

You don’t need to read this if you enjoy your recruiting process exactly the way it is now and don’t need to make any improvements or add any efficiencies with recruiting software.

But if you want to understand the different types of recruitment software that are available and in use and what they can do for a busy recruiter or hiring manager, read on.

ATS

Applicant tracking systems are software applications or recruiting software to automate recruiting functions such as online application processing, resume tracking and sorting, data searching, and contact management. There are many different ATS products available, but three of the most well know are:

  • Taleo
  • Jobvite
  • iCims

Social Aggregation Sourcing

Social aggregation sourcing tools are recruiting software that help enable recruiters and hiring managers to go beyond Boolean search to quickly and easily find the right candidates from among millions with the exact skills and experience required. Products such as HiringSolved, SwoopTalent, and Talent Bin search through social media profiles to make matches based on job titles, education, and skills, plus contact information and other useful data on candidates. Social aggregation tools solve sourcing problems by transforming search into a simple process with a wide reach.

Resume Spiders and Robots

Resume spiders and robots are what power many recruiting software, ATS and social aggregation systems, but are also available as a stand-alone solution for recruiting. Resume spiders such as TalentHook and Infogist enable recruiters to search multiple resume databases quickly and easily to uncover new candidates and niche skills.

TalentHook provides searches of paid and free resume databases, newsgroups, schools and online communities, as well as other sources such as Xray companies and ISPs. infoGist is an economical tool to search multiple resume databases to find candidates with targeted skills and experience. Metasearch tools, or robots, include BullsEye, Copernic, and SearchLight extend candidate search capabilities and help recruiters find specific types of candidates economically.

Applicant tracking systems, social aggregation tools, and resume spiders and robots are electronic tools, many with social media integration, to automate parts or all of the recruiting process. Recruiting software is almost a necessity for recruiters and hiring managers who need to improve their recruiting processes, speed up search and sourcing methods, and automate recruiting.
